Frank Nobilo won the New Zealand Amateur Championship at 18, making him the second-youngest winner of the title. A year later, the first Frank Nobilo appearance in professional golf took place on the European Tour.
After joining selected events in 1982 and 1983, Nobilo joined the European Tour in 1985. After his first win in the 1988 PLM Open, Nobilo won four other European Tour events. The first Frank Nobilo appearance on the American PGA Tour was in 1997, where he won the Greater Greensboro Chrysler Classic. He has also reached the top 50 of the Official World Golf Rankings.
As a member of the International Team in the first three Presidents Cups, Nobilo made a significant contribution to the event’s appeal when he holed a 70 foot putt on the final green to defeat the American pairing. In 1998, he was awarded the Companions of the New Zealand Order of Merit.
Injuries hindered Nobilo from continuing in golf, forcing him to retire in 2003. Today, he is an Ambassador for Nobilo Wines, one of New Zealand’s leading wineries.
