There is no doubt that Hale Irwin was among the best golfers on the PGA Tour with a total of 20 victories and three majors, but on the Champions Tour (formerly the Senior PGA Tour for golfers over 50) he’s been a dominant force. Born in Missouri, Irwin played college golf at the University of Colorado, where in addition to winning an NCAA Division 1 Golf Championship as an individual, he also was a top defensive back on the Buffalos football team.
Irwin turned pro in 1968 and spent nearly 30 years on the PGA Tour. He won the U.S. Open a total of three times and also was an important part of the U.S. Ryder Cup team. He moved to the Champions Tour in 1995 and has already posted more than 40 victories (including seven majors) and now sits atop the all-time money list for the tour. When Hale Irwin isn’t playing golf, he’s still thinking about it with his golf course design company. Irwin was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 1992.
