First as a successful pro on the PGA Tour and later as a CBS golf analyst and golf teacher, Venturi has more than 50 years of experience on the course. Venturi first emerged in the golfing world in 1956 when he nearly became the first (and only) amateur to win the Masters. He topped the leader board for most of the tournament before fading to second on the final day, but that remains the best finish ever by an amateur in the prestigious event. Venturi went on to a successful career on the PGA Tour with 14 victories, including the 1964 U.S. Open. He was also named the PGA Player of the Year in that season. His pro career was cut short by carpel tunnel syndrome, and he then spent more than 30 years as a golf commentator for CBS and still runs a successful golf school and training academy.
