Paul Azinger started playing golf at age of five and turned professional at age 21. He has had a highly successful career, with 11 tournament titles on the PGA Tour from 1987 to 1993. His one major title was the 1993 PGA Championship.

Azinger was subsequently diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma but continued playing despite his illness, earning for himself the GWAA Ben Hogan Award in 1995.
