Title: Professional Hockey PlayerAlexander Ovechkin is a left winger for the Washington Capitals. Even though he drafted first overall in the 2004 NHL Entry draft, the first Alexander Ovechkin appearance in the NHL wasn’t until the 2005 to 2006 season, where he led the rookies in goals, points, power-play goals, and shots. He finished third overall in the NHL in scoring and tied for third in goals. His 425 shots led the league, set an NHL rookie record, and was the fourth-highest total in NHL history. Ovechkin’s point total was the second-best in Washington Capitals history and his goal total tied for third in franchise history. He was also named to the NHL First All-Star Team, the first rookie to receive the honor in 15 years. After the season ended, Ovechkin received the Calder Memorial Trophy, which is awarded to the NHL’s best rookie. Ovechkin was named NHL Rookie of the Month for January 2006 as well as being named Offensive Player of the Month, making him only the third player in NHL history to earn both honors in a single month.
Following the 2006 to 2007 NHL season, Ovechkin was awarded the Kharlamov Trophy, which honors the best Russian NHL player as voted by other Russian NHL players.
During the 2007 to 2008 season, he led the NHL with 65 goals and 112 points, capturing the Richard and Art Ross Trophies. He also won the Lester B. Pearson Award as the top player voted by the NHLPA and the Hart Memorial Trophy as the league’s MVP.
Ovechkin’s international career includes a gold medal in the 2008 World Championships and two bronzes in 2005 and 2007. An Alexander Ovechkin appearance in the 2002, 2003, and 2005 Junior World Championships led him to win two golds and one silver respectively. He also won a silver in the 2002 World U18 Championships and a bronze in 2003.
Alexander Ovechkin Speaker
Ovechkin started playing hockey at the age of seven. That’s how hockey teams do it in Russia – they build players in their systems from childhood. And true enough, at 16, Alexander Ovechkin made his debut for Dynamo Moscow in the 2001 to 2002 season of the Russian Superleague. The following season, he won the Superleague award for Best Left Wing and became the youngest Dynamo Moscow player to lead the team in scoring. A perfect Alexander Ovechkin speaker appearance might be about how he coped with the pressures of competitive sports despite his young age, and how it turned him into a hockey superstar.
