When the Rangers were able to win their first Stanley Cup in 54 long years, it was Richter’s save of NHL superstar Pavel Bure’s penalty shot in Game 4 of the series, which was seen as of one of the greatest highlights of the finals. In the 1994 playoffs, Mike posted four shutouts and 16 wins in the Rangers’ 23 total playoff games.

Mike Richter played in three NHL All Star Games, one of which in 1994 he was named the game’s Most Valuable Player. In 2004, just one year after his retirement, Mike’s #35 jersey became the third ever to be retired by the New York Rangers in the rafters of Madison Square Garden. He was an extremely well known and well liked player around the league. In 2009, he was said to be the #3 greatest Ranger in the history of the organization.
