As one of the leading ice hockey centreman of all time, there was a Ron Francis appearance in 23 NHL seasons for the Hartford Whalers, Pittsburgh Penguins, Carolina Hurricanes, and Toronto Maple Leafs. He now serves as the Hurricanes’ Assistant General Manager and Director of Player Development.
Francis was chosen fourth overall by the Hartford Whalers in the first round of the 1981 NHL Draft. He still holds the position of first all-time in points, goals, assists and games played in both Whalers and Hurricanes history. He also won the 1991 and 1992 Stanley Cups with the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Francis retired from the NHL before the 2005 season and joined the Raleigh Youth Hockey Association. In November 2007, Francis was formally inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame.
