Jeremy Mayfield began his career racing BMX bicycles. He then went on to race go-karts at local shortracks and, at the age of 19, moved to Nashville Speedway USA. In 1987, he won the Late Model Rookie of the Year at Kentucky Motor Speedway. In 1993, upon joining the ARCA series, he was named Rookie of the Year and made his Cup debut at the Mello Yello 500.
