Title: Former NASCAR ChampionAt his first NASCAR race at the Atlanta 500, Rusty Wallace came in second place and from that point on he had a place in NASCAR history. In 1984 he was named NASCAR Rookie of the Year and his first win came on April 6, 1986 at Bristol Motor Speedway.
On August 30, 2004 Rusty announced that the 2005 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup season would be his last as a full time driver. Wallace has had 55 NASCAR wins and is tied for 8th on the all-time wins list. In January of 2006, Wallace began covering auto racing events for ESPN and ABC. Also, he signed at a 6 year deal with ESPN in 2006 and will join the NASCAR broadcasting team for both networks.
