By the time he was 21, Aaron Peirsol had won three Olympic gold medals. As one of the top competitive swimmers in the backstroke events, Peirsol made a name for himself at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens by taking the gold in the medley relay, 100 meter and 200 meter backstroke events. Although he specializes in backstroke, Peirsol has medaled in both freestyle and butterfly events in non-Olympic competition. A native of Orange County, California, Peirsol was born in 1983.

He attended college at the University of Texas at Austin and trained with famed swimming coach Eddie Reese. Peirsol has earned a combined total of 18 gold medals and five other medals while competing at the World Championships Long Course, World Championships Short Course, Pan American Games and Pan Pacific Championships. Peirsol has set and shattered many records throughout his career, and at the 2007 World Championships, he broke the elusive 53-second mark in the 100 meter backstroke with a world record clocking of :52.98. Peirsol also earned a silver medal at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney.
