Two-time Olympic gold medalist Bart Conner holds the distinction of being the only American male gymnast to have earned gold medals at the collegiate, national and international level. An Illinois native, Conner got his start in gymnastics at age 10 and carried his talent to the University of Oklahoma. Conner proved especially adept at the parallel bars and won an individual gold medal for the event at the 1979 World Championships. After competing in the 1976 and 1980 Olympic Games, Conner took home another gold medal as part of the 1984 U.S. team. In total, Conner won the 1979 World Cup and the 1976, 1980 and 1981 American Cup. Today, Conner and his wife, gold medal-winning gymnast Nadia Comaneci, live in Norman, Oklahoma, where they run the Bart Conner Gymnastics Academy, a chain of sports equipment stores and Perfect 10 Production Company.
