Biography

Blaine Wilson started gymnastics at the age of four. It was his father’s idea to have him train in that sport because he was very energetic. The first Blaine Wilson appearance on the international gymnastics scene impressed nearly everyone who saw him. He was ranked 25th in the 1995 World Championships, making him the highest US all-around finisher in the competition.

Wilson won his first national title at the 1996 Coca-Cola National Championships. He was also a recipient of the Jesse Owens Award in 1997. This award is presented by the Big Ten Conference to honor its outstanding male athlete. In 1998, he was a bronze medalist in the Goodwill Games. He was also a member of the 2000 and 1996 Olympic Teams, which both placed fifth, making them the strongest Olympic teams since 1984. Wilson also took home fourth place at the 1999 World Championships. He won his first World Championships medal, a silver, in 2003. In 2004, he earned a silver medal in the team competition at the Athens Olympic Games.
