Title: Former OlympianThe sport of track and field, and more specifically long jumping, is not exactly at the top of the list of most popular sports in America, but despite that Bob Beamon has become a household name and is still remembered as one of the greatest athletes in Olympic history. During the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico City, the New York City native etched his name in the record books with a remarkable jump that earned him a world record and of course a gold medal.
There have been plenty of gold medals and world records in the past, but Beamon’s accomplishment is truly unique. He not only set a new world record, he shattered the old one and jumped so far that it had to be measured manually because the automatic equipment was not set up for a jump of that length. His jump was measured at 8.90 meters, or 29 feet, 2 ½ inches. That made him the first jumper to eclipse both 28 and 29 feet, and his record stood for 23 years until it was finally broken in 1991. Even though he no longer owns the world record, he will always be remembered for that remarkable jump in Mexico City. Sportswriter Dick Schaap even wrote a book about it, entitled “The Perfect Jump.”
Even people born after that 1968 jump know who Bob Beamon is, and TSE can help you land a Bob Beamon speaker appearance. We can also handle the Bob Beamon appearance fee negotiations and try to secure you the lowest possible rate.
Bob Beamon Speaker
Of course a possible Bob Beamon speaker topic is his incredible jump, but he can also speak about overcoming poverty while growing up in Queens or fighting the racism he experienced as an African-American athlete in the 1960s.
Bob Beamon Appearance
The former Olympic star transcended sports when he made a Bob Beamon appearance on “The Simpsons.” In that episode, he jumped so far that he landed outside of the stadium, and while that’s a bit of an exaggeration, it does show what an amazing record he set.
Bob Beamon Endorsement
Perhaps the greatest Bob Beamon endorsement came from “Sports Illustrated,” which named his world record jump as one of the five greatest sports moments of the 20th century.
