Biography

The first Courtney Kupets appearance in the competitive gymnastics scene was in 1989. In 1994, she earned a place on the TOPS developmental team and tested elite in 1999. That same year, she placed eighth in the junior division of the US National Championships, earning a spot on the national team.

In 2002, Kupets placed second in the American Cup competition and eighth at Nationals. She was also selected to compete in the 2002 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships. At the tournament, she passed all other competitors to win the uneven bars event, making her the third American woman ever to achieve the feat. Kupets won the US Classic in 2003 and became the US national champion for the first time. This achievement resulted in here being named to the US team for the 2003 World Championships. She contributed to the USA’s high placement in the tournament.

In 2004, Kupets was named the co-national champion with World Championships teammate Carly Patterson. Kupets also placed highest overall at the US Olympic trials, securing a spot on the Olympic team. In the 2004 Olympics, she won a silver medal along with her fellow US team members in the team all-around competition. Kupets competed in the individual uneven bars and won the bronze medal for the event.

In 2005 she was offered full athletic scholarship at the University of Georgia. She joined the gymnastics team and had a very successful first season, contributing to the team’s first-place finish at the NCAA National Championships in 2006.
