There was a Hope Solo appearance on several US junior national soccer teams before actually joining the US national team in 2000. In 2004, she became a member of the Olympic team, and was the team’s starting goalkeeper in 2005. Solo has a distinction for recording numerous clean sheets and even went 1,054 minutes once without allowing a goal.
Solo’s brilliant soccer career began in high school, where she led the team to three consecutive league titles and a state championship in her senior year. She was also named a Parade All-American two times.
In college, Solo took the goalkeeper position and was the team’s all-time leader in clean-sheets, saves, and goals-against average. She was also an All-Pac-10 selection four times, as well as an NSCAA All-American three times. Following her college career, she joined the Philadelphia Charge of the now defunct WUSA. In 2004, there was a Hope Solo appearance in the Swedish Premier Division and the French First Division in 2005.
During the 2007 FIFA Women’s World Cup, Solo served as the starting goalkeeper for the US. She held the same position at the 2008 Olympics, where the US women’s team won the gold medal.
