The first Jeff Blatnick appearance on the career wrestling scene was in 1973 at Niskayuna High School in Niskayuna, New York. He was the state heavyweight champion in 1975.

After winning national titles in NCAA Division II, he qualified for the 1980 Olympic team. In 1982, Blatnick was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Disease. After a series of daily radiation treatments, he resumed training. He, alongside his teammate Steve Fraser, won a gold medal in the 1984 Olympic Games, making them the first Americans to ever win gold in Olympic Greco-Roman wrestling history.

However, Blatnick’s cancer forced him to retire from wrestling, as he was required to undergo chemotherapy. He has since served as a television commentator and currently works as a motivational speaker.
