Kate Markgraf helped Detroit Country Day School to the 1991 state title by scoring 16 goals and adding 26 assists. She also spent time playing volleyball, where she became a member of the All-League team three times.
Markgraf’s played soccer in college, where she was named to the NSCAA All-American team once and was an All-State team selection three times. She was also a three time all Big East selection and the 1997 Big East defensive player of the year. In 1995, her team won the NCAA women’s soccer championship, where she was named the defensive MVP of the NCAA’s Final Four.
In 1998, the first Kate Markgraf appearance on the US women’s national team came in a game against Argentina. In 1999, she was the youngest member of the team that won the Women’s World Cup, as well as the 2000 Olympics where they placed second and the 2004 Olympics where they bagged the gold.
As a member of the Boston Breakers in the WUSA league, Markgraf was named 2001 defender of the year. She also played professionally for KIF Orebro in the Swedish league.
