College was a very decorated chapter in Lori Chalupny’s soccer career. She captained her team for two seasons and was a consensus first team selection during her sophomore, junior, and senior years. A Lori Chalupny appearance helped the team win the ACC tournament three times in four seasons, as well as helping UNC to the 2003 NCAA title with a perfect 27-0-0 record. There was also a Lori Chalupny appearance as a member of the US national under16, U-19, and U-21 teams. She earned her first cap for the senior team in a game against Italy in March 2001. Chalupny scored her first national-team goal against Mexico in May 2004. There was also a Lori Chalupny appearance at the 2005 Algarve Cup playing left back, but now she is more of an outside midfielder.
In January 2006, Chalupny was forced to take several months off after suffering from a concussion. She returned to national team play six months later.
A Lori Chalupny appearance was seen starting at midfield in all of the US games at the 2007 FIFA Women’s World Cup, as well as scoring two goals, one of which was the second-fastest in Women’s World Cup history. She was a member of the US Soccer Team that won the gold at the 2008 Olympics, where she played in four games for the US and scored one goal against Japan in the semifinal.
Chalupny is a two-time recipient of the women’s Keough Award for outstanding player from the St. Louis area. She also won the US Soccer’s Youth Player of the Year Award in 2005. In April 2006, Chalupny took part in River Cities Futbol Club of the Women’s Premier Soccer League.
