Born in California, Akers attended the University of Central Florida, where she became a soccer legend before joining the U.S. Women’s National Team. In 2002, she was named FIFA’s Woman Player of the Century, and of course she is a member of the National Soccer Hall of Fame. Along with Hamm, she was the only other female named to the FIFA 100 list of the greatest soccer players in history. Akers and her husband now live in Florida, where she dedicates her time to the Sundance Horse Rescue and Outreach organization.
