In the world of women’s professional beach volleyball, Misty May is the Wayne Gretzky and Michael Jordan of her sport. Born in Southern California, as you might expect for a beach volleyball player, May attended Cal State-Long Beach, where she starred on the indoor volleyball team before graduating and turning pro. She failed to win a medal in the 2000 Olympics, but in the 2004 Games in Athens she took home the gold along with teammate Kerri Walsh. May is now the top-ranked player in the AVP Tour (Association of Volleyball Professionals) and also coaches at Irvine Valley College. Now known as Misty May-Treanor, she is married to professional baseball player Matt Treanor, a catcher for the Florida Marlins. May has her own fan club, called the May-Niacs.
