TSE Celebrity Golf Tournament Features Your Childhood Idols

I love it when we start planning the nuts and bolts of our big Super Bowl event, the TSE Celebrity Golf Tournament. This February, it will be held in Scottsdale, Arizona. Is there any better destination then Arizona to host a celebrity golf tournament? Well, maybe Miami, but Arizona sure as hell beats Detroit for Super Bowl fun. The best part of the TSE Celebrity Golf Tournament is that we bring in all sorts of former professional athletes whom most of our attendees grew up rooting for. This means a lot of childhood idols.

At the TSE Celebrity Golf Tournament, you can expect a long list of star players from the 70s and 80s. In years past, we have had Tony Dorsett, William “Refrigerator” Perry (pictured), Randall Cunningham, Everson Walls, Wesley Walker, Mark Duper, Karl Mecklenburg, Kevin Greene, and loads of others. It’s pretty cool to get an inside scoop on your favorite teams from these guys while playing golf. I love asking the players about games I remember watching as a kid and finding out what it was like from their perspective. The experience is priceless.

A couple of years ago at the Super Bowl in Detroit, I personally picked up Mecklenburg and Greene to take them over to the course. They had never met before other then on a football field. They are both great guys but have distinctly different personalities. Karl is laid back and Kevin is in your face. Kevin got in the car and saw Karl. First thing he said was “I remember you. One time you were coming down on special teams and you must have knocked my ass half way across the field.” They laughed and chatted about that play. It was an incredible experience to be a fly on the wall as they continued to talk about former players, coaches, and teams. It opened up a whole new world for me to peer into.

The former players are very responsible as most of them make their money from appearances and speaking engagements. It is a full time job for most of them nowadays. Mecklenburg is an incredible speaker and has made a formidable business out of motivational speaking opportunities. He is someone I highly recommend in that area. Greene is also a magnificent personality and someone who can rile up a group and get them excited. He has so much positive energy that he brings to the table. Both are guys I really respect. Last year we invited Kevin to our Super Bowl event in Miami but he had to turn it down. Instead he was off to Iraq to entertain the troops and lend some support. He turned down a paying gig to do that. I have so much respect for him and the patriotism he showed. We invited Kevin again this year and hopefully he will make it out to Arizona. He did tell me that if he has an opportunity to go back to Iraq we will have to wait till next year.
